Netflix has unveiled its complete revenue generated from UK subscribers for the second time, and it’s been a year of substantial growth for the streaming giant.

The company responsible for British originals such as “The Crown” and “Sex Education” reported sales of £1.54 billion ($1.9 billion) during the 12 months ending in December 2022. This represents a notable 12% increase compared to the previous year’s revenue of £1.4 billion.

These impressive financial results were disclosed by Netflix Services UK, the primary entity registered at the UK’s Companies House. Pre-tax profits for this entity also saw a robust rise of 22%, reaching £34.1 million last year.

This marks only the second instance where Netflix has provided a comprehensive overview of its UK sales, following a change in its accounting practices in 2020. The change aimed to stop routing revenue through its European headquarters in the Netherlands.

According to Netflix Services UK’s earnings report, the average number of paid memberships increased by 4% last year. Furthermore, the company enjoyed a substantial 14% growth in the average revenue generated per subscriber.

While Netflix did not reveal the exact number of UK subscribers, the audience research body BARB reported that 17.2 million British households had access to the streaming platform by the end of 2022, marking a 3% year-on-year increase.

Netflix Services UK also saw a notable increase in its tax bill since it began disclosing its full UK revenue. The company paid £6.4 million in income tax last year, compared to £5.3 million in 2021.

In terms of employment, the earnings report indicated that the average number of UK employees grew by nearly a third, reaching 202 individuals. Most of these employees are based at Netflix’s UK headquarters located at 30 Berners Street in central London.

Netflix expressed its commitment to the UK as a vital production hub outside of North America, emphasizing its dedication to creating Netflix series and films in the country. Since 2020, the company has invested nearly $6 billion in producing shows like “Heartstopper,” “The Crown,” and “Top Boy.” This substantial investment, nearly 50% higher than the initial projections, has also led to the creation of thousands of jobs across the nation.

In summary, Netflix’s latest financial report reveals a year of remarkable growth in the UK, demonstrating the streaming giant’s strong commitment to the region as a crucial part of its global strategy.
